How to Configure/Add a Reader in CenterScape
This sub-task allows administrators to configure (and/or add) readers for use with Asset Manager. There are two task panes. In the center column is the tree of installed readers and on the right is the task pane where reader configuration information is entered. The steps for using the Readers sub-task are described below:
The reader you have just configured will appear in the panel to the left (middle column). If you have more than one Zone Manager configured, you must select the appropriate Zone Manager that the reader will be associated with. If you only have the Local Zone Manager configured, then all readers will be associated with the Local Zone Manager.

The remaining configuration parameters (Position Settings, Advanced, Reader Partitioning, Diagnostics, and Serial Port) are not commonly used and should be configured with guidance from RF Code Support
- In the Admin Console, navigate to Configuration > Readers.
- In the Reader Configuration screen, click the New button and select the reader type from the drop down list.
- Input the information (see description below) for your reader and click the Save Changes button.

Basic Information
- Reader - Choose the type of reader you wish to configure from the drop-down list.
- Name - Create a name for the reader.
- Zone Manager - Choose the Zone Manager that you would like to assign your reader to (by default this is your local Zone Manager).
- Description - Enter a description for this Reader.
- Enabled - If you would like your reader to go active and receive and transmit tag data once you configure it within Asset Manager, this box should be checked.
Network Settings
- Hostname - Enter the IP address of your reader in this field.
- Port - Enter the port number over which to communicate with your reader (by default this is 6500).
- SSL Mode - Select OFF (to turn SSL mode off on the reader), IFAVAIL (uses SSL on the reader if available), REQUIRED (requires use of SSL) or STRICT (will authenticate the matching hostname; if the hostname does not match, the reader will not connect).
Authentication
- User ID – Enter your user name/ID.
- Password - Enter a password.
- Confirm Password – Enter the same password again.
Up Connect Settings
- Up Connection Enabled - If you are configuring an “Up-Connection Reader” that you would like to go active and receive and transmit tag data once you configure it within Asset Manager, this box should be checked. For more information, refer to the Reader Configuration Utility User Manual found in the .zip file for the Reader Configuration Utility available in the downloads section: Utilities/Downloads
- Up Connection Reader ID - The ID that was assigned when you configured your reader as an up-connection reader should be entered in this field.
- Up Connection Password - If you assigned a password when you configured your Up-Connection reader with the Reader Configuration Utility, you will need to enter and confirm the password for use with Asset Manager.
- Confirm Password – Enter the same password again.
